Rooftop solar scheme may be linked with Gati Shakti programme, ET EnergyWorld

NEW DELHI: The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which aims to solarize 10 million households, is likely to get a leg up as the government is considering bringing it under the ambit of the Gati Shakti programme.

The ministry of new and renewable energy is discussing ways to link the new rooftop solar scheme to the Gati Shakti plan, a government official said.

The Gati Shakti plan seeks to encourage a unified and integrated approach for fast-tracking infrastructure projects.

“The rooftop solar systems [content] from the portal [national portal on rooftop solar] could be populated on Gati Shakti,” the official told ET.

The modalities of rolling the plan out are being worked upon, the official said.

The PM Gati Shakti plan incorporates the infrastructure schemes of various ministries and state governments like Bharatmala, Sagarmala, inland waterways, dry and land ports, among others.

Once under Gati Shakti, stakeholders like power distribution companies (discoms) can do better planning of the infrastructure and capacity addition required by them.

The alignment will enable the entire solar rooftop programme map-the locality, the house where the rooftop is being or has been installed-to be available for stakeholders. “The advantage is that the discoms can see if a cluster has come in a particular area, so what transformer capacity is needed in the area,” the official said.
