John Podesta, close aide to three US presidents, steps into major climate role



In choosing a successor to US climate envoy John Kerry, President Joe Biden has gone with an equally familiar, if somewhat scrappier diplomat in John Podesta.

The longtime Democratic operative has been Biden’s senior adviser for clean energy innovation and implementation for the past 16 months and a stalwart champion of the Inflation Reduction Act, the clean-energy legislation that counts as one of the White House’s signature policy achievements.
