Commercial discussions are under way in Norway with billions of dollars at stake as the government moves to nationalise the country’s offshore gas pipeline infrastructure, the precious transport route for natural gas into Europe and the UK.

The government said last year that owning the upstream gas pipeline network was required as a matter of national security and to ensure the profitable and long-term production of gas and oil.
