Australia falls from top tier of offshore exploration targets



Australia’s demise as a top-tier petroleum country looks imminent, with exploration falling to non-existent levels and the government failing to formulate plans to offer new offshore exploration acreage through its annual licensing rounds.

From an exploration point of view, the rot began to set in several years ago with the number of exploration wells shrinking to very low numbers, and the geophysical sector registering a big drop in demand for seismic work.
