zingbus and Sheru form strategic partnership to boost intercity e-mobility, ET EnergyWorld

New Delhi: zingbus, India’s largest branded intercity bus service provider, has joined forces with Sheru, a leading provider of battery management and energy storage solutions, in a groundbreaking partnership aimed at scaling up e-mobility for intercity commutes.

As part of the strategic collaboration, zingbus plans to expand its fleet by adding 2,200 electric buses and 4,000 electric cars over the next five years. To ensure efficient battery management, zingbus will utilize Sheru’s cutting-edge battery management solution, ScaleBat. This advanced system offers features to optimize battery performance, reduce operational costs, and extend battery life, enabling zingbus to make the most of their electric vehicles.

In addition, zingbus will leverage Sheru’s NetBat platform to capitalize on idle time by connecting their electric vehicles to Sheru’s energy storage network. With an estimated cumulative battery capacity of around 1 GWh across zingbus’s electric fleet, NetBat will allow zingbus to offer energy storage services during periods of low vehicle utilization. This not only unlocks new revenue streams but also contributes to efficient management of energy infrastructure.

The partnership underscores zingbus’s commitment to sustainability and reducing carbon emissions. Through the expansion of its electric fleet, zingbus aims to offset half a million tons of carbon emissions annually, equivalent to planting over 22,000 trees.

“We are excited to partner with Sheru to accelerate our transition to sustainable intercity transportation,” commented Prashant Kumar, co-founder and CEO of zingbus. “With their expertise in battery management and energy storage solutions, we are confident that together we can drive innovation and create a greener future for the transportation industry.”

Nakul Mehan, CTO of Sheru, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are thrilled to collaborate with zingbus on their ambitious electrification journey. Highways account for 60 per cent of emissions from transportation in India, and zingbus, being the most trusted brand in intercity commuting, has immense potential to lead sustainability efforts in this sector.”
