The third exploration well in Timor-Leste’s landmark onshore drilling campaign is showing signs of promise as the well gets nearer to total depth.
The operator Timor Resources told Upstream that drilling of the Lafaek-1 well has gone beyond a depth of 3063 metres, and total depth of 3400 metres is hoped to be reached in about three weeks.
A 130-metre section of “highly elevated gas levels” was intersected just above 3000 metres, and indications of heavier hydrocarbons in the gas “may be a precursor of oil” in the lower section.
