SJVN and MAHAGENCO to set up 5,000 MW renewable energy projects in Maharashtra, ET EnergyWorld

New Delhi: State-owned hydro power major SJVN Ltd announced it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (MAHAGENCO) for development of 5,000 MW renewable energy projects in the state.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Deputy CM & Power Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis and Principal Secretary Energy, Govt. of Maharashtra, Abha Shukla. The pact was signed by Geeta Kapur, Director (Personnel), SJVN and P Anablagan, CMD, MAHAGENCO.

The MoU was signed to explore the feasibility of setting up various renewable projects in Maharashtra, which includes Hydro, Pumped Storage, Wind, Solar, Hybrid and Green Hydrogen Projects.

The two companies will jointly participate in tenders floated by the state government for renovation and modernization of small hydro power stations which are operated and maintained by MAHAGENCO.

With the signing of this MoU, SJVN now has a project portfolio of 54,065 MW, with 2,091 MW under operation, while the rest is in various stages of development. The company is aiing to have 5,000 MW by 2023-24, 25,000 MW by 2030 and 50,000 MW capacity by 2040.
