Petronas and JX Nippon look to exploit five fields offshore Malaysia

Malaysia’s national upstream company Petronas Carigali and JX Nippon Oil & Gas of Japan are joining forces on a proposal to monetise the gas potential of the Bujang, Inas, Guling, Sepat and Tujoh (BIGST) fields offshore Kerteh, Terengganu, Malaysia.

Carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology would be key to monetising these fields given their high carbon dioxide content and this would be the first CCS project in Peninsular Malaysia.

The BIGST cluster development would be the catalyst expected to spur development of other high contaminant fields offshore Peninsular Malaysia not possible previously due to the lack of complete CO2 handling infrastructure.
