ExxonMobil in search of more oil at deeper play offshore Guyana

US supermajor ExxonMobil has started a fresh exploration programme in the Stabroek block offshore Guyana, as it searches for hydrocarbons deposits in deeper horizons than recent conventional finds in the area.

The company began last week drilling of the Lancetfish-1 wildcat with the Noble Corporation drillship Noble Don Taylor, according to updated information from Guyana’s Maritime Administration Department.

Lancetfish-1 is situated about 193 kilometres from the Guyanese coast and a few kilometres north to where the Liza Destiny floating production, storage and offloading vessel is operating in the giant Liza field.
