EU eyes more Azerbaijan gas and offers green investment support

The European Union and Azerbaijan have reaffirmed their intention to strengthen energy co-operation, increase the supply of Azeri gas to the bloc and support the Central Asian country to exploit its untapped potential in renewable energy.

The plans were highlighted following a series of meetings held in Baku between EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson and Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov, with talks on energy trade and investment, including plans to double the capacity of the gas pipeline network which runs from Azerbaijan to Europe by 2027.
