Goa: Betting on green tech for biz, jobs

Porvorim: The state government aims to create conditions for the creation of 10,000 jobs and generate investment of over Rs 1,000 crore in green technology and green manufacturing over the next five years.

Chief minister Pramod Sawant said on Wednesday that the government will formulate a Green Goa Policy, 2023, to achieve environmental sustainability goals, which are “very crucial for a coastal state like Goa”.

Sawant said that under the policy, the government proposes to procure all incremental power for Goa from green sources, without additional financial burden.

Sawant also said that under the Union government’s Green Hydrogen Policy, the state has proposed a pilot project for generation of green hydrogen and its derivatives.

The CM said that his government has proposed to make Goa the carbon credit capital of India and has already taken steps to go ahead with carbon credit trading.

Meanwhile, Sawant proposed to set up solar power generation of 300MW capacity, wherein models will be developed on “double-utility strategy” — to set up panels for power generation in addition to current use of land.

“In order to promote the renewable “biogas plants” in the state, I propose to provide an additional incentive of 20% for setting up such plants in the state,” Sawant said.

He also said that to provide a boost to EV sales and other associated infrastructure in the state, the government proposes to relaunch the EV subsidy scheme this year, for which a provision of Rs 25 crore has been made.
